Staying hydrated is a vital aspect of healthy living. Whether you’re an athlete training in the gym or sitting at home on the couch, you must hydrate throughout the day – every day – in order to reap the maximum benefits that water gives. Water is an essential building block of life and our body is made up of nearly 60% of it. Water helps support the function of every system in our body, including the muscles, brain, heart, and every other major organ. It also helps carry nutrients to our cells, prevent constipation and flush bacteria out of the body. Drinking water is so important for these reasons and so many others!
Drinking water before, during, and after exercise helps improve your physical performance at the gym and for competition. We use up a lot of fluids during exercise and it’s crucial that we replace them. With proper hydration, you can help your body improve your level of endurance and reduce fatigue. It can also help lower your maximum heart rate and allow your muscles to be loose and less sore after a hard workout.
An increase in water intake has also been shown to accelerate weight loss. If you drink water before you eat a meal, it can help you digest your meal faster and more easily – it will also fill you up, so you eat less. If you’re on a diet you should include an increased level of water consumption to your routine. Fluid intake will expedite fat burning and help you to reach your target weight goal!
Enhanced Mood and Cognitive Performance
Drinking at least 2.5 liters of water per day has been shown to increase overall mood levels, including serotonin, along with decreased fatigue and confusion. Drinking water can enhance your brainpower as well. Studies have shown a positive correlation between water intake and enhanced cognitive tasks such as test taking and problem-solving. It is important to maintain your level of hydration in order to be able to perform mental tasks at a normal to a high level.
How much water you drink each day is dependent upon many things such as your age, gender, and level of activity. Yet the general guideline for women calls for at least 2.21 liters and for men, at least 3 liters per day. You should also increase your water intake as you become more active. Athletes should be drinking more water than those who do not train at a high level, therefore should bump up from the general guidelines. It is also important to drink filtered water and to watch out for toxins that may exist in tap water.
As you age, you begin to stop feeling the urge for thirst, making you neglect to drink as much water. It’s important that we continue to hydrate especially in our later years to help ourselves look AND feel good. Drinking water can help prevent many diseases and keep your skin looking radiant! To help remind yourself to drink water, it helps to keep a water bottle next to your side all day long so that it is constantly in your sight. Setting goals for water intake are also helpful in progressively increasing your hydration levels. The journey to becoming a healthier you can start today so pick up that water and start sipping!

Many of us do not understand the importance of stretching and not nearly enough of us do it regularly. Stretching daily can benefit your overall health and level of fitness in many ways. Every person can benefit from regular stretching. While some believe that only certain athletes need to stretch – this isn’t true! All of us need to stretch our muscles on a regular basis in order to keep them strong, flexible, and healthy.
Why is stretching so important?
Stretching allows us to maintain our flexibility and that is essential to maintain a range of motion in our joints. If we don’t stretch, our muscles will become very tight, putting ourselves at higher risk for injury. When we forget to stretch and then engage in physical activity, our muscles will be unable to perform at the level needed from them. The muscles will be weak and unable to extend to their full range, which then puts you at risk for muscle damage, joint pain, and strains.
Injured muscles will not be able to support the joints, leading to injury. With stretching, muscles will remain flexible, healthy, lean and less force will be exerted on the muscle itself when engaging in physical activity. Regular stretching can also be helpful for those who suffer from balance issues as it can prevent falls from occurring.
How can I benefit from stretching daily?
Stretching can decrease stress and muscular tension. Chronic stress can cause fatigue, anxiety and depression. A normal stretching routine paired with mindful breathing techniques can reduce stressors and mental tension.
Including different stretches every day can improve overall health. It can help to reduce blood pressure, breathing rate and heart rate. Static stretches as well as activities like yoga can reverse the body’s natural response to muscular tension and stress.
For athletes and those who train rigorously, regular flexibility training can enhance your performance. Your stretching routine will help to improve muscular strength, agility, speed and power.
Our overall quality of life can be improved by incorporating a regular stretch. In our later years of life, there are physiological changes that occur to our bodies and mind. Stretching consistently and performing exercises that improve our range of motion will enhance not only our flexibility but overall longevity.
So, get up and go stretch!
If you want to make steps towards improving your flexibility, make sure to incorporate various lower and upper body stretches into your daily routine. Being flexible is not only important for your physical performance but for everyday life! If you rarely stretch and are very tight, it will take time to loosen up your muscles and notice change. It may take weeks or even months to begin to see a change in your flexibility. The muscles in our body are like a rubber band and can become more flexible with time and dedication. If you are looking for the perfect gym to improve your flexibility and overall level of fitness, come on down to East End Fitness right here in Center Moriches! It’s never too late to start improving your flexibility and health – start today!
Spin classes are a great opportunity to get a quality workout experience while having some big time fun! Spin classes are a combination of fast-paced cycling and strategic lighter rest intervals that allow for recovery and get you ready for the next burst of energy. Spin classes generally last for about an hour and allow you to burn anywhere from 600-1000 calories. This is dependent upon how intensely the instructor guides each class and the level at which you push yourself.
From an outside perspective, a spin class can appear rather daunting, as the instructor is yelling at a class full of people that are dripping with sweat. However, there are many who swear by the benefits of spin classes and once you get hooked it’s hard to go back! East End Fitness, located on Long Island right here in Center Moriches, offers spinning as well as many other classes. These classes can help jumpstart your journey to a healthy and fit lifestyle.
Benefits of spin class
Spin classes are the perfect combination of building muscular strength and endurance. You work your legs and core hard throughout the duration of class with the help of serious interval training. By dialing up the resistance, you work on strengthening your muscles and developing lean muscle mass. The length of the classes also allow you to develop your cardiovascular strength as well. Not only are your legs benefited by pumping them hard on the bike, but you are truly getting a full body workout by incorporating diverse exercises into the workout.
You will move up and down off the saddle, climb hills, and perform sprints and accelerations on flat surfaces. These dynamic moves will work nearly every muscle in your body. After one class you will have burned tons of calories and strengthened your muscles simultaneously, which will help tone and create a more lean, fit body.
What should I expect in my first spin class?
While obviously expecting to have tons of fun, you should also expect to work hard! Spin classes involve loud music with an instructor that is enthusiastic and encouraging to help you get through the workout. If you are someone who needs a little extra motivation during your workout, then spin is just for you! It is important to arrive at least 10 minutes early to get yourself situated. You may need to adjust your bike to meet your comfort level so that you’ll have a better experience during class. You should also make sure to bring water along with you. Expect to work hard and sweat a lot because you’re indoors and not riding outside with the wind blowing through your hair!
After your first class, you may be tired and sore. Don’t get discouraged! That means the class was beneficial and you really worked your butt off! It’s very important to stretch after the class is over while your muscles are warm to get the most benefits from it. This will also help reduce soreness the next day as well. So, what are you waiting for? Try out your first spin class at East End Fitness located on Long Island, NY and experience an amazing workout that you’ll want to return to again and again!
When going to the gym, it’s important to include a diverse exercise routine in every session. This can include everything from weight training, stretching, mobility exercises, and cardiovascular training. Many people have the misconception that aerobic exercise (cardio) is only for those who are trying to lose weight. As a result, many neglect this type of training and focus solely on weight lifting. Weight training is equally as important as cardio training and it’s very important to include both types of training into your workout routine.
Why should I include cardio into my routine?
Cardio is not just for those who are trying to lose weight. Yes, cardio does help burn a lot of calories and aid in weight loss. However, it also has many more benefits than just that. Every person should do their best to include moderate amounts of cardio in their routine each week. Along with the benefit of weight loss, cardio has many positive impacts on the body. It improves cardiovascular health and lowers the risk of heart disease. It allows our heart to work more efficiently and pump blood through the body at a healthier rate throughout the day. Cardio training can also help lower blood pressure by clearing the arteries of bad cholesterol and raising levels of good cholesterol in our blood.
Cardio exercise can help decrease chronic pain. Especially in low-impact exercises such as swimming and cycling, these exercises can help you regain muscle endurance and function. Since cardio can help you lose and manage your weight, that can also help you to decrease chronic pain in areas such as the lower back, neck and shoulders. Another benefit of cardio is helping you sleep better throughout the night. Regular exercise combined with good sleep habits have been shown to improve insomnia. Exercise can help improve sleep quality and duration, as well as enhance daytime wakefulness and overall energy levels. If you feel stressed out or restless, try exercising regularly to ease your body and mind and the results should show when you sleep at night.
Cardiovascular exercise also has been shown to strengthen your immune system. Moderate aerobic exercise can increase antibodies in the blood called immunoglobulins which can strengthen the immune system. Cardio training can also improve brain power. It has been shown that after age 30 our brain begins to degenerate. Exercise has been proven to reverse this aging process in our brain and improve our cognitive performance.
How much cardiovascular exercise do I need?
Experts have said that at least 150 minutes a week or 20-30 min a day of moderate-intense cardio exercise is very beneficial for any person. If you are new to exercising, then you can start slow and work your way up to a comfortable level that works for you. You may even start with 10 minutes a day of moderate exercise such as walking, jogging, biking, or swimming. It may take some time for your body to get used to this kind of training, but once you begin to reap the benefits it will become much easier and effortless to incorporate cardio into your daily routine. Everyone begins and improves at different rates, so don’t compare yourself to others and do what feels best for you! Looking for a new gym to kick off your new cardio training routine? The class is designed with interval training in mind, with the intensity matching in pace with the music and type of movements. The goal of the instructor is to allow the members of the class to maximize their fat-burning by the end of the class. Fitness moves are also incorporated into the choreography, such as squat and push-up variations.

Setting goals for yourself is great way to achieve something you want to reach in your life. But creating goals that align with what you are truly able to achieve is important to consider as well. Have you heard of SMART Goals?
Setting your goals with this acronym in mind can help you better achieve the goal you wish to reach. Knowing what you specifically want to achieve (i.e. lose 10 pounds in two months) is more helpful than ‘just wanting to lose weight’. Creating a goal for yourself that is realistic and attainable is important as well (i.e. “I want to lose 15 pounds in one week”). Not only is this very difficult and unrealistic for most people, if you set your goals too high for yourself, there is a good chance you will not reach that goal and then become discouraged. You want to be able to set a goal that you know you will be able to achieve if you put the right amount of work into to reach that goal in a timely manner.
Getting in shape isn’t easy! It can take time and will not always happen so quickly. It is important to remain confident in yourself and not discouraged as it’s not an overnight process. Each person is different and can experience change at different rates, so don’t always compare yourself to the progress of others! Most importantly, have fun and remain positive through the process, and be sure to set SMART goals for yourself along the way! If you are seeking for a gym on Long Island, then come by East End Fitness for a quality workout experience!
